There’s something
about a Walkathon in support of a worthy cause which inspires
Canadians; perhaps it’s the Terry Fox Legend. The combination
of outdoor exercise in good weather, fellowship with friends old
and new, plus the feeling that one is doing something tangible
for a worthwhile enterprise is a powerful incentive to join the
crowd.

enlisted some 420 sponsors and raised approximately
$6488 - a record.
·
In 2003,
there were over 50 participants from churches and from the Oasis
Dufferin Community Centre. Approximately 400 sponsors
contributed to the walk, which was about 8 km. long and lasted
for about 2 hours. The amount raised was

the Walkathon was held in conjunction with the first ever Great
Stair Challenge for Youth. Funds raised that day were in excess

·
In 2005,
the route of the walkathon changed and seven laps around Queen’s
Park made for an eventful day. Over $5,
000.00 was collected.
In 2006,
over
$6,000
were raised. Congratulations walkers.
The
Prayer Walk has become one of the bigger fund raising events at
Oasis but it is much more than that. It is a witness of God’s
love and faithfulness to the community and to Oasis itself. The
funds raised are used to show that love to those who most need
help. When people come from other lands as refugees, many are
in need of help of every kind. Walkathon funds are used to help
feed and clothe newcomers, as well as introduce them to the love
of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Many have come to know and love
Him because of Oasis.
